So, you’re going to Rome? With so much to offer, it could take a tourist an eternity to explore everything. The “Eternal City” draws millions every year — from history buffs to foodies to power shoppers to luxury seekers. Our Jeunesse Distributors who qualify for the North America Sales Incentive Trip 2019: Rome won’t want to miss the chance to INDULGE. DISCOVER. EXPLORE. at these world-famous sites:
For selfie-worthy backdrops, it would be hard to top the Trevi Fountain, the famous Nicola Salvi designed rococo style monument whose waters flow from one of the oldest aqueducts in Rome, depicting Oceanus and his chariot. Grab your selfie stick and join everyone around you in tossing a coin in with your right hand, over your left shoulder. Tradition says you’ll assure your return to Rome if you do.
The Spanish Steps
A strong coin toss (OK, also a 10-minute walk) is all that separates the Trevi Fountain from the Spanish Steps. Completed in 1725, this landmark in the heart of Rome connects the Piazza di Spagna at the base to Piazza Trinità dei Monti, dominated by the Trinità dei Monti church at the top. Once your Fitbit dings to reward you for traipsing up these 135 steps, the even bigger reward will be the breathtaking vistas and memorably inspiring photos. And, hey, don’t forget to bring your credit card! You’ll find Louis Vuitton, Chanel, BVLGARI, Cartier, Prada, Diesel, Versace, Gucci and BOSS nearby, along with exceptional dining.
Almost 2,000 years after it was built, the Pantheon’s dome is still the world’s largest unreinforced concrete dome. Michelangelo once remarked that the former Roman temple was so impressive it must have been crafted by angels. Gelato, gelato and more gelato (can you ever have too much?) awaits just west of the Pantheon, at the exceptional Cremeria Monteforte. Looking for more of a meal? Take the short walk southwest to Casa Bleve on Via del Teatro Valle, and INDULGE in cacio e pepe or divinely fresh seafood pasta.
The Sistine Chapel is world famous for its frescos and, of course, the ceiling painted by Michelangelo. Be sure to also DISCOVER the lesser known “The Last Judgement” by Michelangelo, which covers the entire altar wall. Maybe create your own masterpiece when you show off this bucket list stop on Instagram. Don’t expect dining or shopping experiences in Vatican City, but do make a stop at St. Peter’s Square and St. Peter’s Basilica, where, together, the structures that make up the present-day basilica form a Latin cross.
As far as landmarks go, there might be nothing more universally recognized than the Colosseum, the world’s largest amphitheater – only the Great Wall of China receives more visitors each year (maybe that’s where we should take you next time?). To the southwest is Palatine Hill, the centermost of the Seven Hills of Rome. It is home to a museum and overlooks the Circus Maximus and the Roman Forum.
